AN AUTUMN SILENCE

AN AUTUMN SILENCE

Gone are the chirps of cicada and kin,

Gone are the songs of birds…

Cooler weather has rolled in

And wind-driven rain disturbs.

Silent pitter-patter on our canopied walk,

Foreshadowing a different sound…

Sidewalls await installation

Shielding from sudden snow squalls.

Rain-soaked ground is soil prepared

For a solid winter freeze…

Bugs and turtles soon prepare

The wait until a warm springtime breeze.
