Dr. Tanaka had received all the lab results from the second cannibal cutlet dump site and was ready to give her final report but she was tied up in a court deposition all morning in Mesa and had a medical consultation at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale afterward.

The detectives arranged to meet her at the hospital cafeteria before her consultation. Fein took out an unmarked Crown Victoria from the motor pool and they headed to Scottsdale.

Benny’s cellphone buzzed en route. He connected the call from his earpiece. Lisa took her notepad from her pocket. An elastic hair-tie held a stubby pencil inside as a place marker.

She scribbled the address Benny repeated. “4659 Sagebrush Lane, Apache Junction. Got it. Thanks. We’re on our way.”

Lisa entered the destination into the navigator and tucked her notepad back into her pocket. Benny turned on the…
