PRAISE GOD MOST HIGH FOR ANSWERED PRAYER

Praise to you, God Most High,

For hearing prayer on the fly…

And your delight

Being quiet in your Sight,

Bringing us into your Light.

You would talk with us,

Yet we put up the fuss…

Ne’er slowing down

Nor coming around,

In ways that are not just!

Walking with your children in gardens,

Seeing our eyes at Thee widen…

drying our tears

and calming our fears,

Joy at mutual abiding!

We don’t model for kids,

the closeness and joy you give…

But stay away–

Asking others pray–

Misunderstanding God’s writ.

Pray for me, said like Simon,*

The sorcerer on his own ladder climbing…

Unwilling to claim

Given to him in God’s name,

What Christ, without his help, did buy for him!

–Jonathan Caswell

  •  Simon the Sorcerer…see  The Book of the Acts of the Apostles (or  simply…”ACTS”)  8:9-24.

THE GRASS OF THE FIELD…

(See Matthew 6:30, and surrounding verses)

Fine figures and fashions

Ignite our human passions…

Clothes fitting right

A welcome sight,

On any social occasion!

Yet the human soul

Doesn’t need clothes to be whole…

If you think “nude”

Understanding is skewed,

Our coverings need not be droll!

Whom are you depending on?

On this side or the other of the “pond”…

The Lord Most High

Is “my guy”,

The Christ is the One.

Whom do you serve,

Bob Dylan observed…

That all flesh

With the Devil will mesh,

Unless God is served.

Focus on God through others,

Unbelievers are sisters and brothers…

All in God’s image made

Their sin price He paid,

Why their chances to know God we smother?

All men (humans) are like grass,*

how quickly a life will pass…

See Christ today–

Don’t walk away–

Who knows when one breathes their last?

COMMENTS COLUMN (HIS)

Looking at his Comments Column,

A lot of people “call” him…

Lots of LIKES–

Stands to rights–

They like many posts within!

Others receive more Comments,

But his output is immense…

What–a dozen–

And he’s still buzzing,

To do so wouldn’t make sense!

Sometimes particular posts,

Of course his own the most…

may receive

A comment brief,

And that more than most!

But each has their own

Time limits to be “on”…

Grateful he is

For LIKES that whiz,

Stacking up here to beyond!

–Jonathan Caswell

I HEARD THE LORD…

I heard the Lord call my name,

But I pulled back in horror and shame….

He mustn’t see

My humanity,

Because I’ll be blamed!

The Lord then said to me,

Believe Christ’s Deity….

Put Christ on–

Your sin is gone–

Then you can appear before ME.

Christ who lives in you,

By His Spirit shines through…

Stay under His wings

And endure all things,

God’s throne room’s wide open to you!

CHURCH ATTENDANCE–A HYPOTHETICAL POEM

He rarely attends now,

It’s gone and got diff’rent somehow…

He feels pushed aside

Not welcomed inside,

No one’s been direct with him, anyhow!

They used to go faithfully,

Found the spirit there strong and free…

The Pastor moved on

And a preacher took on

Things with his own personality.

With his circle of friends,

For our subject, being close to a pastor ends…

You know his pride

Didn’t like “outside”

But he wanted to attend.

Then he and his wife

Both saw ill health in life….

Comparison

With others is sin,

And churned up internal strife!

The preacher/teacher and he,

(Too much alike?) weren’t happy…

It shifted into

“An authority over you”

Which wasn’t as healthy!

Various dissatisfactions

Led to complaints and  feigned actions….

Poor communication

Led to frustration,

In mutual distraction.

So now he stays at home

Sundays, with his wife alone…

No need to go

Taken for granted so,

But he’s stuck–this was his church home.

Socially depended on her,

His wife, for communication stirred…

When she took ill

He didn’t have the will,

To see that his opening up occurred.

He’s given his life for her,

Literally as it were…

Goes it alone

Reaching out he’s done,

Elsewhere–little left at “home”.

Options to go elsewhere?

Feels bound by his wife–so there!

Decision paralyzed–

Easier to survive

By himself, ‘though few benefits to share!

A “hypothetical poem”–which means it is just a poem….!

FROM A CHARACTER WHO BLOGS POETRY…!

Advice from an “old man”

Don’t let the crowd command…

You to produce

A poor excuse,

But pick your ground and stand!

Having “LIKES” for posts is nice,

But some posts cut a deep slice…

Or folks bored

With that kind of sword,

Won’t be caught thinking twice!

Many older posts,

Look like towns with ghosts…

Not a LIKE

Or comment strike,

So much for a poet’s boasts!

–Jonathan Caswell

A NOTE ABOUT THIS CRAZY (?) BLOG:

(In poetic form, of course!)

Many folks apparently,

Like this poetry…

But far and away

They come for the array

Of posts re-blogged by me!

I’m sorry–the fault is mine,

For so was I inclined…

Toward building a base

Of readers at a pace,

Shown to work over time.

A vast majority say

The reblogs are why they stay…

Or at least I infer

That from comments heard,

My poetry–well, it’s okay!

There are–how many?–a “few’,

Who look for my limericks too…

Separation doesn’t work–

My ego got jerked–

The experiment was through!

A ratio of four-to-one,

Or higher to which it has come…

Sometimes I regret

My impatience, yet,

It still is a lot of fun!

Poet and this blog’s Administrator.

TO ALL BELIEVERS OF ANY FAITH

It sounds controversial

For  a Christian to appeal…

To believers of all other gods

To lend their aid and deal…

With the human suffering

Of two major hurricanes

Families of many faiths

Enduring loss and pain!

Even if you have no god,

Please  think good thoughts to heal…

It’ll be a long time  till many folks

Return to an even keel;

This is what my Dad might have done

In his liberal theology…

Reaching out to all concerned

With no apology!

I’ m thinking of a special friend,

A blogger fresh and true…

Known as Holly Hunter

And other Floridians, too;

Her “House of Heart” is quiet till

She survives the storm….

I repeat my concern

For her a colleagues’ love is warm!

To our knees, lotus positions, or however you access the divine—for the sake all storm victims!

THIS JUNE 3RD INSOMNIA

Twenty-eight years in a row,

Rarely (but sometimes) said “no”…

Learning lessons

By Spirit suggestions,

Bringing comfort when we were laid low.

Never easy to live

And share when we’re told to give…

It up for the other–

Why bother,

When together we face so much grief?

Bound by love we are,

Dealing with “crankies” just part…

Of total realm–

God at the helm—

When we trust Him that far.

Not instantly this “one flesh”,

Taking years learning to mesh…

If in the end

We are friends,

We praise God for His wisdom cached.

HAPPY 28TH ANNIVERSARY, HONEY–MY DIANA!

PITHY THE LIMERICK WRITER

Limerick writers choose

If they’ll follow news…

Or focus

On certain business,

Poking others views!

Communists in California,

Seen by liberals as normal…

The public’s sucked in

For years this has been,

Their equating has just been acknowledged  in a matter formal!

Or do I focus on Christ—

His world-changing sacrifice…

Both things are true

Yet which to pursue,

Politics ALWAYS bites!

Of the two only Christ,

Reliably offers His lights…

Those other guys

Too often disguise

For whom they are acolytes!

Besides all this we note,

Not everyone’s in the same boat…

Politically involved

No sin resolves,

Politics is mostly getting someone’s goat!

So I choose Christ and will try

To not let my opinions fly…

But don’t worry

I will not curry

Favor of the other side!  🙂
