HOOT OWL HAIKU

(Each themed 3-lined haiku is a poem in itself)

Hoot owl forest call

Softly heard on a work night

First time this season

–J.E.C.

Late night return home

Keeps the car interior cool

From jumping guide rails

Highway hawks on perch

Snow hides squeaking a la cart

Slim pickings in road kill

His practice at night

To listen for the night sounds

Has enriched for years

See your own vapor

Steam from the depths of our souls

Remembering time

–Jonathan Caswell

MID-FEBRUARY HAIKU ASSORTMENT

(Each individual three-line haiku is considered a poem on its own,

despite perhaps being related to a common theme.–J.E.C.)

(Additionally, haiku may or may not include punctuation—traditional haiku generally do not  have it –J.E.C.)

Presidents’ Day off

Waving away package trucks

Skeleton crew on

American loss,

Long weekends not historic…

Blurred history lost!

High snow banks turn brown

Road salt stains on pavement grey

Waiting for snow days

Plow trucks stand idle

Except for salting road ice

No more overtime?

Winter buds wonder

Is it time to grow and sprout?

Freeze burnt other years…!

Swans in ponds feeding

Youngsters finally on their own

Mommas drove them off

Easter candy sales

Set up before the fourteenth

Valentines half off

–Jonathan Caswell

FIRST HEAVY SNOW (HAIKU)

(Each three-line poem is its own separate haiku poem)

Rain-snow line moves north

Changing forecast shows its worth

Road  treatment’s head start!

–J.E.C.

Seeing who comes in

Depending on where they live,

Predictions spot on?

-J.E.C.

Pick ups early done

Before the roads get too bad

Less drivers–more plows!

-J.E.C.

Halloween celebrating…

It’s family fun.

–J.E.C.

Before midnight comes

And it’s All Saints Holy Day

Let’s kneel down and pray!

–J.E.C.

Vandelism squashed

Families took back the night

The nineteen fifties!

–J.E.C.

Little ghosts need rest

Tomorrow’s another day

Put costumes away!

–J.E.C.

Imagination

Haiku inspired by the mind

Covered with…a mask

–J.E.C.

Gone all the candy,

Sugar high kids just can’t sleep…

Warm milk and stories!

–J.E.C.

Adults a grand time

Pushing the erotic edge

Skimpy means you’re cold!

–Jonathan Caswell

HAIKU FOR THE WEEKEND

Employees rush home

to bed…hopefully…early

Ready for winter?

–J.E.C.

Times with your children

Are precious, fun and so rare…

Give time this weekend!

–J.E.C.

Baths for all concerned

Older children separately

Hormones  may just  strike

–J.E.C.

HAIKU FOR THE FALL SEASON

(Remember—although related in subject or theme, each three-lined haiku is a complete poem!)

Artistic regrets:

Procrastination’s dead fruit

served on dirty plates

-J.E.C.

Cabbage Nights approach

Halloween’s old history

Raising Hell for fun

–J.E.C.

Autumn leaves carpet

Clogging newly dug out drains

Hip boots, anyone?

–J.E.C.

All is not lost, Dear

There were fine colors this year

Someone photographed

–J.E.C.

–Jonathan E. Caswell

DESPERATE HAIKU

(Poet is desperate to write something…that is!)

Esther Ling I miss

Her fight against male-run worlds…

Wonder how she is?

–J.E.C.

Holly’s poetry

Passionate feelings a-fire

But just a poem!

–J.E.C.

I miss other blogs

Memory tends to down-bog

Following thousands!

–J.E.C.

Making love seems slim

Getting some back just his whim

Many obstacles

–J.E.C.

Youth passes him by

Dreams he of being able

As old as you feel?

–J.E.C.

Loving goes right on

Lighting the lamp with God’s love

The light on a hill

–J.E.C.

–Jonathan Caswell

ESTHER LING

His friends know that he does,

For things that “was”…

Esther Ling

Was the real thing,

Committed to her cause.

Opposite from me,

But blogged in sincerity…

Her rainbow flag

A part of her bag,

We were able to be friendly.

Visits back and forth,

Of a poetic sort…

Her chosen art great

Poetry mates,

In two languages by choice!

I’ll miss her Shabbat posts,

For her father’s attending ghost…

Few others can

Replace the man

Who loved her and was close.

Esther, come back to us,

If it’s not too much fuss….

“Hortus closus”

One supposes,

Will be honored for its  human thrust!

HAIKU OF EARLY AUGUST!

(Each haiku is an individual poem, though related to the others)

White dots gone from lakes,

Swans are training their young ones…

Soon…to take over!

–J.E.C.

Last-of-season sales,

Clearing out for winter stock…

Cars, clothes…furniture!

–J.E.C.

Cicada around,

Ringing waves of night time sound…

Sign of Fall’s approach!

–J.E.C.

Our Cottage refuge,

Once the family respite…

Has met a great fall.

–J.E.C.

When the landscapers

Remove summer plants and all…

Chrysanthemums awe!

–J.E.C.

Redheads turn back blonde,

Their hot summer is over…

Cooling off…is fun!

(Don’t “blondes have more fun?”)

–J.E.C.

Fat flies come indoors,

Escaping Fall’s chill…

People do so, too!

–J.E.C.

CHRISTIAN HAIKU

Salvation is bought,

By our Lord who was caught up…

We will be, some day!

–J.E.C.

No one knows the time,

Christians look up, see the sighs…

Closer every day!

–J.E.C.

Soon we are all one,

In spite of our division…

The Spirit picks His!

–J.E.C.

Sing to God all lands,

Show the world our love and hands…

Unity in Christ!

–J.E.C.

Lo the time is close,

Perhaps ending of this post..

Come quickly, my Lord!

–J.E.C.

Suffer a short while,

Life is a whisper soon gone…

Christ lives with you now!

–J.E.C.

Believe and be saved,

Jesus Christ died on the cross…

To life in three days.

–J.E.C.

Believe payment made,

By Christ to pay for your sin…

To the Lord be praise!

–J.E.C.
