MID-FEBRUARY HAIKU ASSORTMENT

(Each individual three-line haiku is considered a poem on its own,

despite perhaps being related to a common theme.–J.E.C.)

(Additionally, haiku may or may not include punctuation—traditional haiku generally do not  have it –J.E.C.)

Presidents’ Day off

Waving away package trucks

Skeleton crew on

American loss,

Long weekends not historic…

Blurred history lost!

High snow banks turn brown

Road salt stains on pavement grey

Waiting for snow days

Plow trucks stand idle

Except for salting road ice

No more overtime?

Winter buds wonder

Is it time to grow and sprout?

Freeze burnt other years…!

Swans in ponds feeding

Youngsters finally on their own

Mommas drove them off

Easter candy sales

Set up before the fourteenth

Valentines half off

GATEKEEPER HAIKU

GATEKEEPER HAIKU

Closing–opening

access to a loving heart

sanctum protected!

Mind of an old guy

Takes in all manner of sights

Most he keeps to self

People still stir hearts

Learning trust at the message

Responses guarded

Dreams’ reality

Hard to move from this to that

cardboard Brenda Star!

Gatekeeper on duty

Quality control agent

Pure sacrifices

The Holy one  comes

His Temple is within us

His Spirit keeps the gate.

Close gates on evil

Open to God’s holy love

Entrust hearts to God!

Mother’s skirt protects

Being near one’s Protector

God would spread His wings!

“LATER SUNDAY” HAIKU

“LATER SUNDAY” HAIKU

No, I haven’t seen

Which game has a winning team!

DAYSTAR we will watch.

Leaf  piles very wet

No fun jumping in them yet

Slimy, sticky leaves

Kids have school Monday

Adults have regular jobs

No parties tonight?

Sugar shock today

Grandma’s apple pie “finished”

OOH, my belly hurts!

–Jonathan Caswell

AUTUMN RAIN HAIKU

AUTUMN RAIN HAIKU

Steady falling rain

Overnight leaves have fallen

Soggy leaf carpets!

Temperatures rising,

Ice not a factor today…

More slip than a slide!

Through clouds sunlight peeks

Fetching falling foliage

More bare trees than not.

Mammogram today,

Refreshing showers before…

Checking the breastworks.

Temperature rise

Nearly November, our eyes

Mayn’t see these again!

SNOW PLOW DREAMS

SNOW PLOW DREAMS

(5 separate haiku)

Storming ice and snow

Sanders ready to go…

Fit me in, Buddy!

Beautiful white veils

Falling down to cover trails

Can a plow fit there?

Crass commercialist

Jumping up and down for storms

Fireplace later

Short-order cooks laugh

Drifts are blowing back

Keeping…with hot brew

Spirit peace after

Access for emergencies

Holy men do drive!

FUNNY CAT HAIKU

FUNNY CAT VIDEO HAIKU

Compilations filmed,

Situations staged for cats

Laughter track in place!

–J.E.C.

Let sleeping cats lay,

Pester them another day…

Give poor cats a break!

–J.E.C.

Pussy cat kicks door,

Viewers rolling on the floor…

Not over that yet?

–J.E.C.

Funny noises cat,

Pulling tails to get all that?

No subscriptions here!

–JEC

Cute little kittens

Falling off a kitchen shelf…

You do thus for wealth?

–J.E.C.

“Mirror Cat” is back,

Anticipate an attack…

You s cream at me…WHY?

–J.E.C.

Jump out of nowhere,

Those flying felines on stage…

Landing is the joke!

–J.E.C.

MENTAL LOCK-UP HAIKU

MENTAL LOCK-UP HAIKU

(Maybe some repeats of earlier work)

Pushing it too much?

Recognizing I’m a wolf…

Taking advantage.

FOR MARY:

A lonesome cougar,

Cunning in her ramblings…

Into my former room!

Stubby pencil sings

Recording impressions new…

Singing golf pencils!

Common diagnoses,

Fellowship in pain/struggle…

This group comforts all.

Sitting at room’s door,

After houfrs writing verse…

Just inside the line!

Spirit’s forgotten

But by one or two  Christians…

Suggested mantras.

Ditty singing heard.

“Nicole” wanted a sample…

Made one up…for her!

Ten minute shower

Shortened yet to five…

Cold water assets!

Every morn anew—

Yesterday’ mistakes are gone…

Possibilities!!!!!

If staying two weeks,

Would ask Doctor “Siraco”

To visit or call.

(For encouragement)

“Renee” encouraged

Her circle, including me…

God’s love in action!

Some of us go back,

To apartments full of pain…

Can they grow at all?
