HANDS-ON…MY HISTORY

HANDS-ON…MY HISTORY

I took a fabled RS-1* into the living room

On a tray to try doing some work…

I wanted to replace that body shell with one bought new,

Then progress was caught up with a jerk.

It was the Two-Fourteen I had in my hands,

Numbered for our first letter exchange…

February Second completed the first round

As our relationship grew strong and aged.

The “214” is painted silver with red-white-and blue

Stripe around both hoods (old AMTRAK stock)…

Maybe I’ll just finish changing this one’s couplers’

Putting one of three “NEW HAVENs” on the body shell changing block!

*NOTE:

All of these locomotives are N scale models of the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) model RS-1…in the author’s collection.  Some of his units are lettered and numbered for important life events….like when he and his wife exchanged their first letters (#214)  or the date they were engaged (#5388…for the date 5/3/1988).

SALAD AND BROCCOLI–RAW, RAW, RAW!

SALAD AND BROCCOLI–RAW,RAW,RAW!

(or nearly so)

I ordered Broccoli and Beef,

The broccoli part was chief…

Ingredient

And chewing went

Well considering my teeth!

Reminded me of my Dad

And the chopped-up salad he had…

Which he barely chewed,

His puree’ he viewed

With words that sounded so sad!

SOME PENTATETTE SUBMISSIONS:

SOME PENTATETTE SUBMISSIONS:

I submitted limericks to THE PENTATETTE** for several years. These are just a few.

It’s raining and snowing together,

The perfect Worcester (Mass.) weather…

But here’s the trick,

It better not stick

With cars driving hell-for-leather!

–J.E.C.

Blogging of a starlet’s spiral

Downwardly took off viral…

What is stank,

She laughs to the bank

Not caring her story’s hirel.

–J.E.C.

I once had red hair you see,

But grey, black and bald’s left to me…

My prejudice arose

‘Gainst the men I suppose,

Because anger for me was easy!

–J.E.C.

In October his Mom died of cancer,

After all this time there’s no answer…

Why he’s not cried

But deep inside

The issue takes more than a glance, sir.

–J.E.C.

He once knew a family from Douglas

Whose home was practically bug-less…

They sprayed lots of mist

With chemical fist,

Poisoned the dog and went pugless!

THE LIFE OF MUHAMMED (P.B.S.)

My good friend, “Zia A.”

Disagrees with fanatics today…

On P.B,S.

His viewpoint’s expressed

In THE LIFE OF MUHAMMED, portrayed.

Facts taken from the Koran*

And history of the man…

No compunction

Of religious unction,

‘Til after his ended life span.

YOU’LL LIVE LONG AND PROSPER!

YOU’LL LIVE LONG AND PROSPER!

(In memory of Leonard Nimoy, d. 2/27/2015)

Our old friend, Leonard Nimoy,

Whose characters filled us with joy…

From black and white

To color done right,

He played both violent and coy.

He was more than an aging SPOCK,

But gave PERRY MASON a sock…

Brought to justice

Despite the insists

That the whole of his guilt was a crock.

Leonard Nimoy and NOVA*

Was natural for any space rover…

His vocation

Often narration,

A combination that won us over!

Oft portraying an outsider,

His career spread much wider…

Writing, directing

Oft intersecting

Weaving his plots like a spider.

But MR. SPOCK was the role

For “hundreds of years” extolled…

Through “NEXT GENERATIONS”

Various incarnations,

But hardly this actor’s whole.

–Jonathan Caswell

AUTHOR’S NOTE:  Characters and programs in capitals (upper case) are of mostly his TV work…he did star or appear in a number of movies and other productions…not just STAR TREK!
