WARM YOGURT

WARM YOGURT

Warm yogurt starts to tingle,

As buggies within start to mingle…

And before long

They’ll break out in song,

Singing the company’s jingle!

A CORDUROY SKIRT & JACKET

A  CORDUROY SKIRT AND JACKET

(sing to THE YELLOW ROSE OF TEXAS)

A corduroy jacket

And skirt are going to be

The next sewing project

My love does, you see…

She’ll make it from material

That cost a lot of “dough”

But I do like the pattern

And will love her in it so!

Oh, the patterned blue fabric,

A fancy corduroy…

Is worth the glow in her eyes

When I paid for this joy;

She’ll have her new sewing machine

Which I guess I’ll set up too,

And help her with the making of

Until the set is through!

We can’t afford to hire help

Except for a tip or two,

This pattern cost a lot to get

But she’s not feeling blue…

Except to say my illness brought

Her project to a halt,

Just taking over for her love

She did not find me fault.

My BLUE SAPPHIRE OF JOHNSBURG (see Archives!)

Is the best one for me,

She takes up the slack I bore

And responsibility…

The least I can do for my love

Is allow a corduroy bolt,

To help her smile a good long while

And scamper like a colt!  😀

CHRISTMAS READY

CHRISTMAS READY

What is it–two more weeks?

To finish the list that one seeks…

But who seeks Christ

In the Stable of Lights,

Instead of a riotous feast?

Abandoned Christian rites,

By those seeking other sights…

Has the Babe gone pagan,

Replaced by a flagon

Of mead…duly spiced?

Those of us with faith,

Can we say our souls are safe…

Little preparation

Receiving salvation,

From the One virgin gestation?

Two weeks to receive our King

Let Heaven and earth ring…

In the hearts of His people

Under every steeple,

And  whomever in which Christ’s joy might spring!

EXIT THE CHASE

EXIT THE CHASE

(Poetic blogger’s philosophy)

Since he hasn’t the time

To pursue women inclined…

He thinks it okay

When they come HIS way

To then lay down a dime.

HOLIDAY HAIKU

HOLIDAY HAIKU

Temperature jumps,

“Cold season” drips and sneezes…

Economic boosts!

Thanksgiving over,

Turkey soup with lots of fat…

Should have known better!

Black Friday turned week,

Jingle makers sing their songs…

Santa’s tandom sleigh!

Sun shines on our tree,

Ads run for all charities…

God’s Gift…is coming!

–Jonathan Caswell

FRAGRANT FORGETFULNESS

FRAGRANT FORGETFULNESS

Being absent-minded ain’t fun,

My beef stew was overdone…

Burned in fact,

My wife–with tact–

Showed the pot needed scrubbbing–a ton!

I wasn’t feeling well,

Repeatedly asleep I fell…

The half-power burner

Was a real stomach turner,

But I slept through that smoky hell.

To salvage the meat I’ll fry,

Less-valued in my dear wife’s eye…

She cleaned the mess

I started heedless

Of my wish to not have things fry!

A MEDICAL DISCOVERY

A MEDICAL “DISCOVERY”

Discovered a device medical,

The mention of which sounds heretical…

For drainage scads

They use sanitary pads,

To save on soaked bandaged spectacles!

Unlike in Rehab., it gets lonely

Being with the wife only…

Visiting nurses

Bring one who converses

While bandaging feet–none are homely.

Satisfying the folks who look

At my poetry book…*

This Christian rebel

Wrote “Peter The Pebble,”

To which one nurse’s children have took!

At four AM it’s quiet,

Unlike a June morning’s riot…

Birds on the wing

Aren’t expected to sing,

Where they once were–till springtime when they return once again in my neighborhood–to try it!

–Jonathan Caswell

* my poetry book…available ate amazon.com, and elsewhere…SPIRIT-LED LIMERICKS AND OTHER CHRISTIAN POETRY, by  Jonathan Caswell…I bought a limited number of both the regular and Large Print editions to sell/give away/lend out as needed!

THEY SAID WHAAAAT?

THEY SAID WHAAAAT?

I know my accent is funny,

But answers I get are rummy…

“No pain,” I say–

Take some anyway–

The pain will make you jumpy.

Came home to a situation,

So many on dish assignation….

No one will ask

How we do the task,

Just add more complication!

And when you DO ASK they follow

Systems they don’t want to swallow…

We’ll do it OUR WAY

Or else we won’t play,

Do it all yourself tomorrow.

Look a gift horse in the mouth,

It’s like you’re throwing them out…

You need the help

So stifle the yelp,

Or be left alone in your “ouch.”

It must feel great looking down

With “compassion” on those around…

You show your caring

By your victims’ despairing

That anything they remember be found!

(sometimes you get what you pay for….or not!)

MONDAY DOLDRUMS

MONDAY DOLDRUMS

Rain on the roof drumming

Tattoos in time with ho-humming…

It is Monday,

No more time to play,

Back to the schedule numbing!

OCTOBER HAIKU

OCTOBER HAIKU

Favorite season,

Colors from life on display…

Hidden until now.

Birth and death at once,

Mine and that of my Mother…

Sorrow leaves fall down!

Orange and green, both,

Barrenness not yet in view…

Hopeful transitions!

October people

Balancing light and darkness…

Creating wonder!

😀
