PAIN-STABBED PIGGIES

PAIN-STABBED PIGGIES

Up at this hour to foil

Pain with aromatic oil…

In between piggies

Sharp ones and biggies,

Throbbing but not from toil.

Putting it on in the dark,

I feel it drip down to park…

On the other leg,

I sure would beg

It to stay where put, though in the dark.

As pain slowly fades away

Took insulin early today…

At four AM

I’ll say an amen

If this pain goes away!

READY—AIM—FIRE!

NOT TOEING THE LINE

Start of his six month woe

Was damage neglecting Big Toe…

Though not twenty-three,

He foolishly

Went without socks to and fro.

His sense of reality muddy,

Went around with a soaked sock bloody…

Leaving red dots

In many spots,

His wife thought he was nutty!

Distracted by a catheter bout,

His mind shut the bloody foot out…

Thus it’s forgotten

Till it went rotten,

He kept on pushing it out.

The infection bothered both legs,

He was walking on broken eggs…

Made of glass

Till it came to pass

That his legs cut out and he crumpled to the floor–useless legs!

A NEW SERIES !

A NEW SERIES!

A bucket list author assured

Himself that his work endured…

Did awful in sales

But he prevails

By putting pieces out as lures!

–Jonathan Caswell

I had me a book manuscript nearly ( ? ) completed…and suddenly decided not to publish, at least not at that publisher, as nice as the new staff .  Maybe I will send it to them but not just now.

ON THE RECEIVING END,

by Jonathan Caswell

SO…on this blog, BY THE MIGHTY MUMFORD and my other blog, THE MARVELOUS MUMFORD–and maybe some teasers at OUR POETRY CORNER–I’ll be posting poetry from the alleged book until I figure out where and how to formally publish it–if at all.  🙂

THE BOOK…is about my recent experience over the last six months or so, damaging, ignoring, losing two toes on my right foot by amputation, rehab. and recovery.  The basic premise–with other observations added–is to look at how difficult doctors, caretakers and such like me ( ! ) make such terrible patients, when it’s our turn to be cared for!

Other bloggers use some titles repeatedly as categories.  Each of mine here are what I plan to use in the book, which is, as you know, semi-autobiographical.  These subtitles will be (in this series):

READY…AIM…FIRE!

(Who makes poor patients and maybe why?)

THE HEALERS

(Nurses, therapist, aides from hospital, rehabilitation and home care I’ve known)

REHAB RUMINATIONS

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

(Various related issues of interest)

THE END OF THE MATTER?

BY HIS FINGERNAILS

BY HIS FINGERNAILS

(If he has any left.)

His long ordeal seems done,

The battle with amputation almost won…

But occurence

Of ending insurance,

Worries his future to come.

Received a continuance letter

Which helped him feel somewhat better…

Answers come slow

By snail-mail you know,

But his social worker–he’s glad to have met her.

ROLE REVERSALS–NO PROBLEM!

ROLE REVERSALS–NO PROBLEM!

Caretaker of his wife, he was

Until amputation thus…

Found care of him

Under her whim,

His ego matured for the cause.

Their life in Christ was in being,

Through His love seeing…

Encouraging souls

Ultimate goals,

Whom they were was in Him succeeding.

Success not a matter of role,

But God’s encouraging the whole…

Definition by deed

It was Christ’s to succeed,

While His children with Him are clothed.

Working this through mortal frames

Is but one of Spiritual aims…

To work His will

Whether healthy or ill,

In Godly mercy and love  Christ came.

Who thus the greater be,

But Christ, Who lives in me…

We are man and wife,

Ransomed for life–

Father God as Daddy!

PRECONCEIVED NOTIONS

PRECONCEIVED NOTIONS

The doctor removed the bone chip

Whose blood made the nurse flip…

He was blamed

For the quantity of same,

Reputation has that strong a grip!

–Jonathan Caswell

DOCTOR SAYS…

DOCTOR SAYS…

Doc said left to open air,

The wound would dry and repair…

Soaking does well

To sweeten the smell,

For shoes–soon a regular pair!

CLOSE QUARTERS

CLOSE QUARTERS

This long-term staying at home

Husband-wife relations groan…

Comment brings strife

Reconciled with the wife,

Each have their own painful moan.

Conflict resolution takes place

When living close–face-to-face–

Thank God for prayer

Allowing fresh air

And necessary private space!

–Jonathan Caswell

MARATHON MAN

MARATHON MAN

He’s gone and lost another toe,

Which lengthens his world of woe…

Sitting quite still

Takes much will,

There are things to be done, ya know!

Months of one foot elevated

Are extended by another amputated…

The older wound stitched,

No longer bewitched

By evening nurses anticipated.

(nurses coming only once-a-day now)

Determined to not fool around,

He wants to work again sound…

He’ll do what it takes

To avoid sugar cakes

And keep his blood sugar down!

–Jonathan Caswell

IT’S HOMEBOUND FOR ME!

IT’S HOMEBOUND FOR ME!

I heard the cute young nurse say,

If I wanted the V.N.A.*…

Couldn’t drive my car

Or go very far–

She caught in the act, anyway.

She warned that the V.N.A.*

Legally could not stay…

If from hence

There was evidence,

Homebound status had gone away!
