POET…AFTER (A) FASHION!

He calls himself “fashion poet”,

One or two others know it…

In pursuits

Avoiding lawsuits,

He certainly doesn’t want to blow it!

Him being man and all,

Must carefully judge his call…

With less passion

Than stereotypical fashion,

Not being the Beast at the ball.

Gender matters to him,

Especially if women…

They’re the kind

He most has in mind,

Do they mind if he tiptoes in?

HAREM SCARE’EM AND ME!

HAREM SCARE ‘EM AND ME !

(To the tune of “THE YELLOW ROSE OF TEXAS”…A SONG)

He thought he’d like a harem–

Oh, what a great idea–

Collecting beautiful women

For each day of the year…

Have one of every hair color:

Of red-heads, two or three,

Some that change with the season

Oh what a company!

But modern girls aren’t like the ones

That lived in olden time,

They’re much more educated,

Don’t easily resign…

Their lives and their futures

To a fat cat jailer-king,

To volunteer they’d like to hear

His cash disbursement ring.

Logistics would be maddening

Even if all were convinced,

Coming from all over

When he saw the bill he winced…

He began feeling outnumbered

Cooperation thin,

Instead of coming one-by-one

They all came after him!

He couldn’t pay their wages

So all up and left,

His fine plans for his evenings–

Not a single one was kept…

And then he got the bills for

The leaving of each one,

He decided then and there

Modern harems were no fun!

I thought of the same thing myself,

Like “THE HAREM OF BIRDS”

But only beautiful bloggers–

Women, in other words…

An exclusive club with just one man

My wife would veto fast,

My flesh already wants control—

The concept sounds a blast.

But thinking realistically

My cost is way too much,

I’ll lose those friends who cannot stand

A married man’s touch…

Long-distance relationships

Are harder to maintain,

I’d just as soon give up now

Before I feel the pain!

NATURAL TRANSFERENCE

NATURAL TRANSFERENCE

Beware girls or boys

Casting for new toys…

If one won’t play

They’ll be thrown away,

For another more interesting chojce!

He sometimes with little meant

Replaces a relationship spent…

Matters little who with

As long as they give,

And make him feel like president.

MAKING TIME FOR NEIGHBORS

MAKING TIME FOR NEIGHBORS

It’s good to make time for neighbors,
A rest from all your labors…
Working with them
Refreshes again,
Good to pay off favors!

Sit and talk in the laundry,
About other neighbors and sundry…
Appreciate them
Before the end,
It will happen…one day!

Why live alone like a hermit?
You don’t—even you—deserve it…
Companions rare–
Enjoy who’s there–
Being friendly with neighbors: a merit.

HANDS-ON…MY HISTORY

HANDS-ON…MY HISTORY

I took a fabled RS-1* into the living room

On a tray to try doing some work…

I wanted to replace that body shell with one bought new,

Then progress was caught up with a jerk.

It was the Two-Fourteen I had in my hands,

Numbered for our first letter exchange…

February Second completed the first round

As our relationship grew strong and aged.

The “214” is painted silver with red-white-and blue

Stripe around both hoods (old AMTRAK stock)…

Maybe I’ll just finish changing this one’s couplers’

Putting one of three “NEW HAVENs” on the body shell changing block!

*NOTE:

All of these locomotives are N scale models of the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) model RS-1…in the author’s collection.  Some of his units are lettered and numbered for important life events….like when he and his wife exchanged their first letters (#214)  or the date they were engaged (#5388…for the date 5/3/1988).

MY PASSING FRIEND

MY PASSING FRIEND

She’s the only one who remarked

About my freshly shorn hair…

The one who always stops

To smile when I’m there.

She is a good friend in passing

Nearly every night…

Never for harassing

But for spreading delight!

The ending of Sarah’s workday

Near the beginning of mine….

Coincides with a pleasant exchange

For one passing point of time.

FUR-BRAINED FELINES

FUR-BRAINED FELINES

You Tube compilations

Of cat concentrations…

Mirrors and jumps

And into bath dumps,

Expose tintinnabulations!

THIS ISN’T POETRY…?

THIS ISN’T POETRY…?

I read the New Testament Bible book of “JUDE”, this AM.  Jude was, according to most scholars–or tradition, whichever you wish t follow–the brother of James, the brother of Jesus Christ our (and his) Lord.

What do you do when you are third down the list of importance in your family and you have sisters–trust my observations on this–and someone encourages you to “write something?”

I’ve never experienced this–having no sisters and was the sickly baby in our family of two brothers and Mom and Dad–but think about it.  Technically Jude was 3rd in command, behind James and Joses (see the Gospel of Mark, Chapter 6, verses 2 through 3).  Why wasn’t Joses (or Joseph–the second brother) asked to write something?  The old tale about the middle brother or sister being “forgotten?”…I wouldn’t know!  🙂

So Jude ( the baby in the line of brothers–maybe this makes more sense to me after all!)  is asked to write SOMETHING  for his fellow believers of our Lord and his Elder Half-Brother.  What can he say?

Notice how this simple (?) guy, once he gets going, latches onto the most important point in the life of the Body of Christ…then and now:  false teachers among God’s flock.  Jude, maybe with some coaching (I needed some) combines what he knows with Hebrew tradition (such as the quote of Enoch…otherwise not in the Bible…and the arch-angel Michael disputing over the body of Moses) to make his point:

False teachers are no good and they’ll ruin the witness of the Church and corrupt individual believers to satisfy their own lusts and hunger.  Their fruit, such as it is, comes from the pit of hell and they’ll just as soon drag whomever they can in with them as look at you!

Good job Jude…you’ve hit it on the head for all of us!

and unworthy servant of the Lord Jesus Christ.

STIR NOT UP LOVE OUT OF ITS TIME

STIR NOT UP LOVE OUT OF ITS TIME!

(Opinion, based upon Song of Songs 2:7)

Song of Solomon two: seven,

Reminding of the right time for heaven…

Out of context

Is frustrating sex,

Add reason to loaves with leaven.

Sing and dance while you’re young,

Older folks, more foolishly done…

Appointed seasons

Make good reasons

Accepting you are also-run!

Pressure without outlet

Just how stupid we get…

Romance out of time

Invites inner grime

When we are told, “NYET!”.

WHY EVEN MENTION IT?

WHY EVEN MENTION IT?

He saw it happening again,

Desiring more than a friend…

Resisting that pull

To pull the wool

Over his eyes and pretend.

At least once a year he goes,

into these attraction throes…

Always one-way

He dare not stay

Too close to a prospective rose.

Happens so often he

Knows eventually…

The “old nature”

Legislature

Votes for a juicy affaire!

“Resistance is futile,” some say,

But rather just walk away…

Run if you must

From growing lust,

Be true to your beloved night and day.
