END-OF-DAY HAIKU

END-OF-DAY HAIKU

Forecast warm, sunny,

Workplace: energized hub-bub…

Hallways empty fast!

–Jonathan Caswell

TOYING WITH TANKA

TOYING WITH TANKA

Been taken as a fool

A two-hundred dollar school,

Burning with laughter

Their laughter–smiling at me

Smilingly to the bank vault!

–J.E.C.

Successful robins

Pulling worms out at their will

Feeding generation

Filling nests of happy broods

Serenading the damp woods!

SOME PENTATETTE SUBMISSIONS:

SOME PENTATETTE SUBMISSIONS:

I submitted limericks to THE PENTATETTE** for several years. These are just a few.

It’s raining and snowing together,

The perfect Worcester (Mass.) weather…

But here’s the trick,

It better not stick

With cars driving hell-for-leather!

–J.E.C.

Blogging of a starlet’s spiral

Downwardly took off viral…

What is stank,

She laughs to the bank

Not caring her story’s hirel.

–J.E.C.

I once had red hair you see,

But grey, black and bald’s left to me…

My prejudice arose

‘Gainst the men I suppose,

Because anger for me was easy!

–J.E.C.

In October his Mom died of cancer,

After all this time there’s no answer…

Why he’s not cried

But deep inside

The issue takes more than a glance, sir.

–J.E.C.

He once knew a family from Douglas

Whose home was practically bug-less…

They sprayed lots of mist

With chemical fist,

Poisoned the dog and went pugless!

–J.E.C.

**THE PENTATETTE is an on-line and printed newsletter specifically for limericks.  See http://www.limericks.org for details.

IT’S MARCH, ALREADY!

IT’S MARCH, ALREADY!

Ice melt dripping from eaves,

The warm-up giving reprieves…

To snow laden roofs

Whose strength many proofs

Apparent in designs conceived.

Bedraggled bushes appear,

‘Though snow banks still come to “here”…

Once eight foot–now six–

Out in the “sticks”

Trees shelter snow cover, my dear.

–Jonathan Caswell

HIGH WHITE WALLS

HIGH WHITE WALLS

Frigid mountains window-high

Leave the view of only sky…

One consolation,

Extra insulation,

For the apartments nearby.

Winter’s blizzard blow

Piled great mountains of snow…

Partial proof

Of snow from the roof,

So fear of collapse would go!

Wind  buffing snow pile tops bare,

All that snow be somewhere…

Look in he lees

After the breeze–

Great need for road plowing out there.

PUSHING THE HOURS

PUSHING THE HOURS

The day after Valentines

I couldn’t sleep between the lines…

TV murmurs hurt me so,

I had to let ideas flow.

Writing in the dark of night

By turning on another light

I find it good to awake stay,

Meeting early the light of day.

Scientific theory says

To push your hours ’round till bed…

Establishing circadian

Rhythms in a sleepy head.

All-nighters pulled

During school

For older men

Remain a tool!

–Jonathan Caswell

PRECONCEIVED NOTIONS

PRECONCEIVED NOTIONS

The doctor removed the bone chip

Whose blood made the nurse flip…

He was blamed

For the quantity of same,

Reputation has that strong a grip!

–Jonathan Caswell

THE PLATEAU

THE PLATEAU

Why does he not progress,

A  subconscious reason I’d guess…

Gets less attention,

Social intervention,

Riding on the healing express?

–Jonathan Caswell

GEORGE REEVES DID IT.

GEORGE  REEVES DID IT!

Superman–Geoge Reeves–

Stomps his feet…flying achieves…

In dreams so did I

When prompted to fly,

On certain R.E.M. eves!*

–Jonathan Caswell

* R.E.M. …Rapid Eye Movement sleep, when most dreams happen…”eves” short for evenings–like New Years Eve.

MARATHON MAN

MARATHON MAN

He’s gone and lost another toe,

Which lengthens his world of woe…

Sitting quite still

Takes much will,

There are things to be done, ya know!

Months of one foot elevated

Are extended by another amputated…

The older wound stitched,

No longer bewitched

By evening nurses anticipated.

(nurses coming only once-a-day now)

Determined to not fool around,

He wants to work again sound…

He’ll do what it takes

To avoid sugar cakes

And keep his blood sugar down!
