AN EARTH DAY TRILOGY

AN EARTH DAY TRILOGY

(of political and ecological opinion)

Presidents using Air Force One

Must consider ecology dung…

Florida trips

For Republican rips,

Shows where his heart’s clung.

On the Washington Mall,

Earth Day parties shared it all…

Consciences seared,

The movement’s gone weird,

The way they left things appalled!

Put trash out the night before

Helps strong winds litter more…

Why people do

Clean up after you,

You don’t pay enough for the chore!

RESPONSE TO AN ANGRY YOUNG BLACK MAN

RESPONSE TO AN ANGRY YOUNG BLACK MAN

This white poet grieves

With an angry young man who sees…

Little attention

Given to mentioned

Leaders in Black histories.

The media seems to ignore

Contributions made before…

Making short shrift

Of history’s gift,

Black leaders who came to the fore.

This poet studied college

Historic Blacks, the knowledge…

Of whom valued

Knowledge renewed,

Yearly could be acknowledged.

But what can one man do,

News media wants the new…

Our Black President,

White House resident,

The only Black leader to view?

Are there other Black leaders out there,

Currently for whom we could care…

Who charge to the fore,

Making more

Progress that Blacks may share?

Glories all from the past,

Those great leaders will last…

These great  minds–

Do we inherit in kind–

Other folks of similar cast?

MORE THAN SATISFACTORY

MORE THAN SATISFACTORY

A special Valentines Day,

More snow is coming to play…

On hills and dales

That high wind avails,

Whilst we stay inside and sashay!

We have our Saturday dinner,

My wife’s fancy dress a winner…

A Polish feast

For greatest to least,

Ah, community love doth glimmer!

After our repast nightcap,

We ambled home for a nap…

My love and me

Snore peacefully,

In recliners and my C-PAP!

She got a card out for me,

Am I too lazy?,,,

Neither could shop

(Will the snow ever stop!),

Our love is for eternity.

FORMER MORNING STAR

FORMER MORNING STAR

(Isaiah 14: 12-15)

The Devil in the Garden

Envious of God’s pardon…

Of innocent lives

And love that derives

From a Heart that is unhardened.

Jealous the Devil was

Of Adam and Eve because…

They walked with God

And thought it not odd

To do so without duds.

Satan himself had been

Considered God’s right-hand man…

But given choice

Chose to voice

Self-pride cherished within!

The Devil–albeit a snake–

Was happy the couple’s partake…

Just as he,

With prideful glee

That less-nutritious cakes.

Tempted to be wise

They did what opened their eyes…

In one breath

They chose death,

Of Spirit connection, besides.

People of faith, we face

The same from the human race…

Our downward knock

Builds up stock

Of sinners refusing grace.

Rebellion to God will happen,

You, His children they’re rapping…

The faithful cling

For Christ to bring

Salvation–God never is napping!

PALM TREES, ANYONE?

PALM TREES, ANYONE?

This Christmas promises green,

Little snow left to be seen…

Just heavy rains

To plug street drains,

Maybe Santa will get muddy jeans?

COUNTING DOWN

COUNTING DOWN

Counting down to the moment

Of ultimate ecstasy foment…

We stay awake

For children’s’ sake,

Bearing with credit card torment.

Meaning slips year by year,

The older ways are more clear…

Yearly reminders

No commercial blinders,

Repetitious–but our conscience clears.

Come now to Bethlehem,

Marvel at the Babe again…

For joy running deep

While the Child’s sleep

Calms us to thank God for Him.

CHRISTMAS READY

CHRISTMAS READY

What is it–two more weeks?

To finish the list that one seeks…

But who seeks Christ

In the Stable of Lights,

Instead of a riotous feast?

Abandoned Christian rites,

By those seeking other sights…

Has the Babe gone pagan,

Replaced by a flagon

Of mead…duly spiced?

Those of us with faith,

Can we say our souls are safe…

Little preparation

Receiving salvation,

From the One virgin gestation?

Two weeks to receive our King

Let Heaven and earth ring…

In the hearts of His people

Under every steeple,

And  whomever in which Christ’s joy might spring!

HAVING NO FEAR–OR FUN

HAVING NO FEAR–OR FUN

Being inside all the while,

I gaze out at weather and smile…

Transitional time

To retrain the mind

For winter driving as dialed.

But now I may start to worry

As someone else drives in a hurry…

Out of my control

To politely extol,

And trust those driving the surrey!

OCTOBER HAIKU

OCTOBER HAIKU

Favorite season,

Colors from life on display…

Hidden until now.

Birth and death at once,

Mine and that of my Mother…

Sorrow leaves fall down!

Orange and green, both,

Barrenness not yet in view…

Hopeful transitions!

October people

Balancing light and darkness…

Creating wonder!

FORBIDDEN FAVORITE FOODS

FORBIDDEN FAVORITE FOODS

(Mostly as Haiku)

Diet swords crossed

Winning control of his fare…

Far-reaching food fight!

Super-Special sub,

Three meats, lettuce and cheese…

Scrumptiously okay!

Still  buying candy,

Pretzels for a rainy day…

Edema won’t leave!

Low-salt, high fiber

Candy bars masquerading…

Wise ones watch labels!

Complimentary,

Small portions of chips…

Regular soda!

Convenience kills,

Easily lost is control…

Salt and sugar win!

Eating half only,

Sandwiches enjoyed longer….

Maybe wife gets some!

Meatloaf and gravy, rare,

Mass. Turnpike revelation…

Suddenly set right!

Candy corn for kids,

Bag closed carefully between…

Cheating doesn’t help!

Diabetic mood

Carbohydrate-tidal force…

Glucose levels swing!
