GETTING TO CHURCH

GETTING TO CHURCH

(When you’re hurting)

Men have poor tolerance for pain,

Compared with a woman’s child gain…

He hurt in the leg,

A borderline “beg”

Heard a TV pastor’s refrain.

Attendance a part of one’s faith

In Jesus Christ to stay safe…

Encouraging

Others worshipping,

Growing the Body of faith.

They like it when I lead singing,

An on-tune loud voice bringing…

Words out in hymns

Understanding brims,

Congregational spirits winging!

In church we share our cares

And people who need prayers…

Listening to the Spirit

Who regularly steers it,

We serve a God who cares!

SUNDAY DINNER

SUNDAY DINNER

Sundy dinner–after church–

Our church and theirs…

Mom and Dad would

Wholesome goodness prepare.

Mom would help Dad with services

For patients on the hill…

My brother and I walked down

To the Methodist Church by our parents’ will.

Sunday School then the service,

Early service sometimes as well….

Four years apart were we brothers,

Each with experiences, do tell.

We’d walk back “up the mountain”

Or ride our bikes (or try)…

Depending on which route was taken,

We’d  get back for dinner and pie!

THE SIN OF ACHAN–REVISITED

THE SIN OF ACHAN—REVISITED

(Joshua 7: 1-26; Joshua 24: 14;   Acts 5: 1-11)

Achan took his goodies and went,

Buried them under his tent…

Slaughter at Ai

Convicted the guy,

Was rocked to the ultimate extent!

If you promise to serve the Lord

Do everything above board…

Do not keep gods

With Him they’re at odds,

If you wish blessing from Him restored.

Ananias and Sapphira sold land

Putting money in the common can…

Not volunteering that they

Kept back some that they,

Thought would fool God’s Holy man.

The man who had hidden a prize

Knew he couldn’t face Jesus’ eyes…

With pain, let go,

Deleted “his” show,

From the Bible I’;d say he was wise!

READY AT ANY TIME

READY AT ANY TIME

It’s getting late, the Master’s call

May come at any time…

The Rapture may come

To tale us to a Home sublime.

Prophesies that need to be

Fulfilled are nearly all…

The faithful wait with arms outstretched

For our Father to tale us all!

PERFECT TIMING FOR US!

PERFECT IMING FOR US!

Former pagans and Jews decline

To agree upon Bible time…

When they object

One might suspect

That believers know it was the right time.

Scripture says in Hebrews,

That Christ’s dying once was Good News…

Before the world began

Set in motion God’s plan,

Dying once—now nations must choose!

EPHESIANS 5:28-30…A POETIC RENDERING

EPHESIANS 5:28-30—A POETIC RENDERING

No one hates their own body,

Nor treats mind and soul shoddy…

We assume

Each makes room

To improve the low or spotty.

Jesus cares for you

If you’re in His Body too…

Do not put down

While wearing a crown,

The Lord’s temple—YOU!!!!

HEAVENLY COORDINATION

HEAVENLY COORDINATION

A topic or question to mind,

Holy Spirit responds in kind…

God’s wisdom reaches

Through multiple preachers

And believers’ maturity mined.

Often on Christian TV,

There arises similarly…

Programs feeding

The same topic needing,

Holy Spirit synchronicity!

Christian radio too,

Broadcasts a Spiritual view…

Multiple preachers,

Same topics featured,

God’s Spirit provides answers for you.

LIFE GOT INTERESTING

LIFE GOT INTERESTING

(MY own suicide story–J. C.)

At fifteen, thought of suicide,

Talking to myself to decide…

Just didn’t know

When happiness showed,

So promised God I would abide.

Things didn’t change overnight

Eventually love came in sight…

My new girlfriend

And I didn’t pretend,

But openly walked in God’s light!

Creative people like me

Tend focusing internally…

Those gods and goddesses

Won’t clean up your messes,

Just tighten pers’nal slavery.

Through years I’ve come to see

God DOES have purpose for me…

Submit to His will,

Abide in life still

You’ll see your worth, divinely!

CAN’T DO IT!

CAN’T DO IT!

He’d like to participate

But has too much on his plate…

Gone are days

For him to praise

God for a leader’s fate.

He’s not on the church ballot,

It’s been so many years…

He doesn’t teach Sunday School anymore

But those who do, he cheers.

In worship, he leads the singing,

Of hymns old and true…

He leads without accompaniment:

Something not all can do.

He’s proved himself unreliable

For much of anything else…

He prays and sings, a few other things,

No major stuff under his belt.

Except…responsibility

That he needs help with right now…

His primary ministry–to his wife–

To love her more, somehow.

The Lord has promised good to him,*

His hope and love secure…

God will his shield and portion be

As long as life endures.
