MAKING UP LOST TIME

MAKING UP FOR LOST TIME*

He drank up the coffee real soon,

Had fluid-rationed since noon…

The problem with a shack:

No bathroom out back,

Drink too much and possibly be doomed!

–Jonathan Caswell

* The poet spent 5 and 1/2 hours today, covering for a Security Officer stationed in a guard shack/ gate house…where in order to use the bathroom, one had to call the inside security mobile unit for break coverage.   This Poet, who once worked that site on a regular basis….see THE LOST CONTRACT…posted earlier today…wants to reduce his use of “Unit 7″….as a matter of personal choice.

A SIMIAN SAM

A SIMIAN SAM

Most of you know my “success”

Is writing about self, more-or-less…

No one else can tell

What I do as well,

All part of the writing process.

That gate house temporary position

Was not so much imposition….

As discovery

Mission for me,

Familiar, yet a change in position.

From inside, the window’s a mirror,

Darkening things queerer…

My head profile

Didn’t make me smile,

The resemblance was not a “cheerer”.

That profile reminded me

Of orangutan or chimpanzee…

That shape of the head

Nobody’s said,

But obviously it was me!

But I know my wife loves me,

And the Lord does with certainty…

No one has said

That I’ve ever heard,

“He looks like a chimpanzee!”

‘Though some have treated me “special”

And others show little respect…

I’ve found a niche

To scratch an itch

In ways many people detect.

Did the appearance of my true profile,

Trouble me for a long while?

Apparently not

‘Cause the love that I’ve got

Truly makes me and others smile!  🙂

TRAINS ON SCHEDULE

TRAINS ON SCHEDULE

One of the joys of that gate house

Is hearing a train working near…

Providence and Worcester Railroad trains

Often do appear.

Climbing the hill out of Worcester,

Going to Gardiner, Mass…

Up in early afternoon

And back down when sunset is passed.

Lots or interesting freight cars

Appear on the monitor screen…

Provided so that we can see

If a vehicle goes where it means…!

Return trains run in darkness,

Screeching like a slythering ghost…

Despite the hardships of the gatehouse

This scheduled show means the most!!!!
