She wanted to go swimming,
But the family till is thinning…
This heat’s bad
Covered in lily pads,
Heat stroke would set our heads spinning!

CHILDHOOD LOST
–
I mis my Mom, I miss my Dad,
I miss the smell of lily pads…
Wound around the pram propeller
Out of water pads are smellers,
But skunk cabbage–that’s really BAD!

HOT JUNE DAYS
(tune: “Animal Crackers in My Soup”–to sing it!)
Sudden spreading algae blooms
Cover quiet pond lagoons,
Lily pads bursting out so far…
Cradling gentle lily stars!
–
Sweat drips down like salty rain
Making us shower all over again,
Grass grows quicker than we mow…
Professionally planted flowers show.
–
Rain clouds come to wet the ground,
Thunder and lightning slow us down
To enjoy a quiet book…
Or resting in a favorite nook!
