MEETING “MISTY” AGAIN

She worked at UNIBANK

In Douglas–I wanted to thank

Her for her time

And her job climb,

Her brand new upward rank.

On an impulse I stopped today,

Someone smiled and showed me the way…

A classy place-

Seeing her face

Washed all my concerns away!

She said that I looked good,

My wife’s hand braces–understood…

The joy of less pain,

She said come again

I told her that maybe I would!

TWO EMPTY CHAIRS

TWO EMPTY CHAIRS

Two empty chairs at the window,

Waiting for someone to sit…

Someone who’ll watch for hours

Keeping watch over all of it.

One has for months been in rehab,

Another man has moved…

His “replacement” fell and broke something

Where a change of address was behooved.

Nobody here has the time

To sit down and just watch…

We miss our friends who were living

Here, wishing one or two could come back to catch–

Mists in the morning quietness

And people going to and fro…

None of us left are quiet enough

To sit down and let go.

MORNING IN NEW ENGLAND

MORNING IN NEW ENGLAND

Ever so fresh and dew-kissed,

An experience I’ve missed…

To drive in the morning

In a new day a-borning,

With the last straggling tendrils of mist!

Cranking the radio loud

To drown out my muffler’s growl…

For a quick travel north

I sally thus forth,

Listening to that rush hour howl.

The lighting is softer at this angle,

I have to go north to wrangle…

Paperwork  on computer

That will suit her,

Some rent reduction being dangled.

So I see this glorious sight

Of well-maintained houses in light…

Soft but strong

As I rush headlong,

Until the next traffic light!
