MODELING MEMORIES

His memories of New England various,

Were by and large vicarious…

Mostly pictures he saw

with interest and awe,

His chances of a visit–hilarious!

Point of fact he was too young,

Couldn’t drive himself even some…

The eight-hour ride

Once a summer left wide,

Window for relevant magazines to come!

Still his interest grew,

Past the time when he knew…

This paint scheme was gone,

these ALCOs moved on.

But the history he wanted to view.

Found an N scale engine thus,

Painted just like this—a plus–

To re-enact

Historical fact,

Without too much fuss!

COMES WITH THE TERRITORY

COMES WITH THE TERRITORY

(Thankfully–not this time!)

Blizzard conditions

Contribute to rising suspicions…

Of power loss,

Such is the cost

Of New England locations!

RAIN SHOWERS UNPLANNED

RAIN SHOWERS UNPLANNED

This place feels so much like home,

In New England, weather has shown…

Creative ways

To interesting days,

Though complainers like to moan.

We had a tornado watch,

Til five o’clock and then scotched….

Revere was hit

With a ‘nado legit,

An “F-2” strength was notched!

Whereas we just got our warning,

Dark clouds and distant roaring…

Eventually rain

Off and on came,

When the sun shone, it kept on pouring!

Odd storms for me–nothing new–

Binghamton, NY had them too…

Where I grew up

Changes were abrupt,

Had weird weather at college, too.

HOT SPELL

HOT SPELL

Hot, muggy thunder stormy

Is how this week goes…

Summer’s heat is complete

As a flower grows.

One thing about New England,

This rarely stays for weeks on end…

A different pattern will occur

To modify the trend.

WINTER IS HERE AT LAST

WINTER IS HERE AT LAST

The mums are out of the ground,

The blossoms have largely browned…

Temperatures colder

And joints feeling older

Tell us winter’s around.

Animals are growing thick fur,

While people complain with a “brrrr!”

Folks from the tropics

Focus optics

Remembering how warm they were.

Ladies take out winter things,

Put away previous Springs…

The summer stock

Is put out for hock,

Or kept safe for warm weather flings.

While drivers look after the tires,

Wood stoves are prepped for hot fires…

To keep homes warm

In the midst of any storm,

The kind of thing New England inspires.

THE BIG RUN-AROUND

(GOOGLE IMAGES)

THE BIG RUN-AROUND

We’re not talking political here,

Though we get enough of that…

I’m referring to a turn-around

Upon a railroad track.

The line of covered hopper cars

Being run-around will be,

Left to serve the needs of

A local industry.

It may be grain or cement

Or plastic pellets, too…

Whatever it takes for New England

Industry to make it through.
