NOBODY WANTED OUR POT–LUCK!

We took what I thought worth taking,

A soup of my own making…

Boiled cabbage and ham

But no thank you Ma’am,

Just me and the wife were taking.

Competition was rather strong,

Lasagna and casserole gone…

What little we ate

I’d consolidate

And use for suppers till gone!

I had someone’s lemon meringue,

Almost too sweet–no tang–

Along with ice cream

(And lasagna again!),

Enough food for the whole gang!

My wife left her pink NORTH  CREEK hat,

I’m rescuing stuff like that…

Everyone knows

Keeping track of clothes

Is anything but old hat!

WHERE MY WIFE’S PEOPLE ARE

If I were to build a train

Layout in my wife’s name…

The Adirondacks

Would supply facts,

So she’d have a familiar game.

Running the D&H,

North Creek Branch  her favored page…

Sawmills and mines,

Hotels all kinds,

During her coming of age!

ADIRONDACK RAILROADS

ADIRONDACK RAILROADS

Forests hide history,

Old grades degrade as we see…

New highways built

For new money spilt,

Consigning trains to memory.

But the North Creek to Tahawus line,

Is restored and running fine…

Wood products, stone

And garnet hone

The edges of rails redefined!

MY FINAL WORDS….MAYBE….FOR THIS YEAR.

MY FINAL WORDS…MAYBE…FOR THIS YEAR!

The year doesn’t end today,

But the wife and I are driving away…

To her mountains to see

Her loved family,

Tomorrow should be the day!

On the thirtieth and thirty-first

Of December my job is rehearsed…

Returned from our bolt

And economic jolt,

We might be dining on liverwurst!

(The wife hates it–I can stand it fresh for a sandwich or two!)

Whatever our lot, we wish you well,

I’m resting my fingers a spell…

I’ll see you in a week,

We’ll be up near North Creek

Listening to a distant church bell.

Have a Merry Christmas….Happy Holidays….the quintessential Kwanza!?!

JOHNSBURG RACES

JOHNSBURG RACES

(Same tune as “Camptown Races”–different words!)

His dear wife is at full speed…

Mer-ry Christ-mas!

Packing up the things they need…

Merry Christmas day!

CHORUS:  Doesn’t take all night,

                    Needn’t drive all day…

                     Driving only six hours

                    Gets them there, one-way!

Leaving town to stay a week…

Mer-ry Christ-mas!

Adirondacks near North Creek…

Merry Christmas Day!

(CHORUS)

From his job got two turkeys…

Mer-ry Christ-mas!

Found a neighbor was “veggie”…

Merry Christmas Day!

(CHORUS)

Maybe someone needs a bird…

Mer-ry Christ-mas!

Before they leave, I hope they’ve heard…

Before Christmas Day!

(CHORUS)

Her brother up there is getting a tree…

Mer-ry Christ-mas!

That his sister can decorate with glee…

For a Happy Christmas Day!

(CHORUS)
