MADE-UP SILLIES (CAN HE DO IT?)

It’s good to end in good humor,

Debunking wild off-base rumor…

The baby’s car seat

Made the picture complete,

The”ous” that appeared wasn’t “numer”!

My cistern is nearly dry,

But please don’t ask why…

Poems in the can

Leaves me with just sand,

Just one more (this) I’ll try!

Peepers took a night off,

Passing around a bad cough…

Egg laying too

In watery goo,

Some peepers must have taken off!

A MARCH RAIN

A MARCH RAIN

Rain clouds turn heavy weepers,

The first night someone heard the peepers…

Little tree frogs

Hiding in bogs,

Singing their hearts out for keepers!

Surely a sign of spring

When these frogs sing…

Who is sad

When they hit the pad,

Winter loses its sting!

APRIL HAIKU

APRIL HAIKU

Frost hides in shadow,

Cold sunshine sublimes black ice…

Lilies stick out tongues!

Motorcycles parked,

Club-ride snakes long–through downtown–

Traffic:  parade rest!

Passover chicken,

Roasted lambs in short supply…

No time for lamb care.

Easter Bunny’s eggs,

Hung on trees seasonally…

Plastic stocks gain ground.

Bird migrations start,

Robins parse out snowy lawns…

Geese and ducks’ pit stop.

Peeper frogs’ fast love,

Amphibians unfreezing…

Deer savor new shoots!

New shoes and dresses,

Everyone radiates life…

Springtime dress in flowers!

THE PEEPERS HAVE RETURNED!!!!

THE PEEPERS HAVE RETURNED!

(Tune: “Oh Jerusalem!”)

Last night as I was walking

Around the fact’ry grounds,

I came around a building to hear glorious sounds….

I came around a building there to hear glorious sounds!

The peeper frogs,

The peeper frogs,

Cheeping for all their worth:

In Springtime they are most welcome,

Sure signs of a warming earth,

In Springtime they are most welcome…

Sure signs of Springtime birth!

A thought then occurred to me–

It was an instant thing—

Not gradually but all at once

The frogs began to sing…

Not gradually but all at once

Our frogs began to sing!

Our peeper frogs,

Our peeper frogs

Singing for all their worth…

Their arrival is very welcome,

Mating calls of great mirth…

Their outbursts signal Springtime,

Is breaking out on the Earth!!!!

APRIL APPEARANCES

APRIL APPEARANCES

The Peepers are not crickets,

But tiny little frogs….

That appear in April

Out of the swamps and bogs.

Their peep from a tiny body,

Like the whistle of a tiny steam train….

When all in a crowd sounds loud

With their mating refrain.

Later in the season,

Out come the bigger bullfrogs….

Who bellow for like reason

From the shores and bogs,

Both kinds of frogs have numbers

Too numerous to ignore,

But if a few are taken to chew

The rest go on full-bore!
