FEELING USED

FEELING USED

A chance for humility,

Could only happen to me…*

A week of days

Spent in haze,

Feeling futility!

Starting with major upheaval,

Renewing the struggle ‘gainst evil…

Within one’s heart

Acknowledging part

One plays as part of the deal.

Two guys want me to relieve them early,

The details are driving me squirrelly…

Keeping it all straight,

Arrival before eight

AM, can’t be all good surely!

–Jonathan Caswell

* The Poet is being facetious.

“MEMORY” FOLLIES

“MEMORY” FOLLIES

Got up this AM, early,

Should have known something was squirrelly!

The calendar said

Go back to bed,

But I was stubborn and surly.

Me-thought the wife had a date:

Her podiatrist (running late)…

Come to find out

It’s tomorrow (big shout!),

Some days we’re too blind to relate.

So made a bunch of phone calls

To various health service halls…

To get straightening

Situations waiting

Of which we’d become appalled.

Even got some posting,

One poem at least, while toasting…

Bread and grilled cheese

(Are there seconds, please?)

Wanting a nap…but coasting.

So now I’m really tired,

It’s a wonder the writing’s inspired…

Working real hard

As an Internet bard,

The boiler’s plumb cussedness-fired!

AGING FOR THE YOUNG

AGING FOR THE YOUNG

It’s hard to look at aging

With hormones a-raging…

But easier still

To know you will,

But it will not be your youth upstaging!

For some of us, our prime

Was years ago in time…

We feel “kinda” squirrelly,

We got old too early

And missed out on those miracle enzymes!

For others, young love is ending,

(It hurts too much doing the bending)

That “empty gun”**

Is worn out son,

Don’t waste time in spending or pretending.

–Jonathan Caswell

**”empty gun”  is an analogy used in bawdier vaudeville routines.
