Been dreading this winter driving,
My fear of doing it thriving…
Got out and drove–
My fear dove–
Down as confidence was rising!

THIS TUESDAY?
–
This Tuesday snow and ice
And freezing rain will suffice…
To give a jolt–
winter’s afloat–
Roads won’t be very nice!
–
Highway departments to trust,
to travel their roads I must…
Salt and sand
Upon demand
But managed–that’s the thrust.
–
Still getting use to the car.
Six cylinders carry it far…
Gas pedal and brakes
More time it takes,
My fears openly jar.
–
Calm down, taking it easy,
The crazies aren’t that dizzy…
They also tend
Avoiding back-ends,
‘Cause car repair bills are crazy!

HAVING NO FEAR–OR FUN
Being inside all the while,
I gaze out at weather and smile…
Transitional time
To retrain the mind
For winter driving as dialed.
–
But now I may start to worry
As someone else drives in a hurry…
Out of my control
To politely extol,
And trust those driving the surrey!

WINTER DRIVERS
Reduced speed on the Mass. Pike,
But folks still drive as they’d like…
As fast as they’ll go
Through blizzard snow,
Some drive like that out of spite?
–
Most drivers handle things good
In the weather of this neighborhood…
Bad physics aside,
Some take pride
In showing they’re tops in the hood.

SECOND SNOW STORM
IN THE NORTHEAST
(Sing to “Animal Crackers in My Soup”…ie: Shirley Temple)
Traffic lines were well-behaved,
Those of us who outside braved
All of the slipp’ry roads to drive…
To make a living and survive!
–
As much as twelve inches are forecast
Drifting will come with icy blast,
It may warm up a degree or so
After we’re done with falling snow.
–
I got to work only ten minutes late
And could have drawn a much worse fate,
The guy I relieved was ever so kind..
Telling me not to worry my mind!
–
I’ll stay here til one a.m.
Then making my way back home again,
Maybe the plows will be an inch farther down…
To the pavement, at least in town.
–
Snow storms come and then they go,
Looks rather pretty don’t you know…
Once we are in we stop and admire
The beauty outside from a warming fire!

JOURNEYS OF THE BRAIN
I’ve had some interesting dreams of late,
With lots of traveling done…
In two different cars it seemed
And trouble with either one.
–
The car I really drive while awake
Needs fixing soon…
How to pay for it is the take
That we have yet to assume.
–
I think the “double-oh-seven blog,”
That leaping black and white…
Re-blogged yesterday came into play
As the starring cat last night!
–
We have not yet “replaced”
The tuxedo cat we had…
Paying for “him”* and the rest of our debts,
Not being able to…makes us sad.
–
I was a teacher again last night
With assumptions that were mostly wrong…
The environment wasn’t the best,
(My class control wasn’t strong).
–
I often am driving in the snow
Or over flooded roads…
Both have been fears of mine,
The memory of which goads.
–
And somewhere in there I saw my wife
Walking around just fine…
Thinner with a lot less pain,
I wish that reality mine.

*Our new cat could be a him or a her…we don’t care…they have to be neutered or spayed with all their shots up-to-date, anyway. With one exception, all our cats were strays that happened by. This time we have a shelter picked out to adopt from. 🙂
